Yoga Instruction ... Private or Group Sessions

I've been a health and wellness educator ever since my own health crisis in 1991, when I dove into the vast pool of natural healing methods and began teaching others what I had learned.

I've found in yoga what I've been seeking for many, many years: a way of being in the world that honors, unites and balances the body, mind and spirit. My specialty is teaching my students, no matter at what level of ability, how to embrace, understand and be compassionate with their own unique bodies, and consciously manifest their divine nature in every moment. And how to get healthy, strong and flexible, of course!

I completed my initial 500-hour teacher training at YogaWorks in NYC. Their method is a blended Hatha Yoga style that is steeped in Iyengar alignment, Ashtanga vigor, Viniyoga breath and Tantric philosophy (i.e., we are whole beings discovering spirit through our physical experience). It is renowned for its intelligent sequencing, allowing the body to safely warm up before moving into more difficult poses.

Over the past several years, I have had the great privilege of studying with the groundbreaking Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman Yee, Alan Finger, Rod Stryker, Gary Kraftsow and Mark Whitwell. I was overjoyed to have been chosen to be part of a pilot program funded by Donna Karan’s Urban Zen Initiative, led by Rodney and Colleen Saidman Yee, where we offered yoga, breathwork and meditation as therapeutic modalities for patients, family and staff at the Beth Israel Cancer Center in NYC.

Inspired by this work, I completed the very first 500-hour Urban Zen Integrative Therapy Training in 2009. The revolutionary training focuses on yoga therapy, Reiki, Aromatherapy, Contemplative Care and Nutrition -- all to help people on the broadest spectrum of need. My toolbox is always growing! My husband Stephan Kolbert (who has done all of this yoga training alongside me) and I now serve as mentors for the current UZIT cohort and often assist Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman Yee at their Northeast workshops. We are blessed to have such amazing teachers nearby!

Here are testimonials from some of my students:

Ingrid is a wonderful teacher -- knowledgeable, observant, warm, patient, and full of positive energy. I'm so glad that Ingrid has been the one to introduce me to yoga.

Each session is like a meditation and Ingrid helps you to connect your body and mind and to focus on your breathing in a way that gives you stability in everyday life. You feel patient and more calm. Ingrid is herself a most patient and calm teacher and pays attention to the smallest details and watches closely to be sure that the postures are practiced in the safest and most beneficial way.

Yoga has always been an activity I knew I "should" be doing but fitting in a class to other physical activities has never been something I found a way to prioritize. Ingrid is calm and firm in her approach so that I feel that sense that I am "working out" and at the same time feel myself slowing down and developing breathing and flexibility that allows me to improve my running and bicycling.

Ingrid is a wonderfully thorough and careful yoga teacher. She reviews poses in depth and is very in tune with the comfort level and pace of each individual student in her class. Her classes are not just about the poses, but the process and thus we feel immense benefit from our yoga practice. She also has a beautiful voice!

I look forward to sharing with you what I've learned!
